The basket of deplorables is segergated

It’s a bit hard to believe that about 13 months ago, Mrs. Clinton herald her downfall with the statement

“Trump supporters belong in a basket full of deplorables.”

It was something like that.  By that time, she was nothing more than a nuance to me since I couldn’t get over her lack of email accountability.  Whatever Mrs. Clinton said after that, I really didn’t care.   I just remember the ‘deplorables’ quote for all the t-shirts it inspired.

Fast forward to September 2017.
Another notable democrat, former first lady Michelle Obama, stated

“Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice.”

Before this, I really didn’t have any ill will towards Mrs. Obama.  Sure, she messed up with school lunches, but I’m sure her intentions were good.  The lady can’t pen a child’s book to save her life, but at least she tried.  Hell, she had to look like she was doing something, right?

But, in this statement, she not only blames women for the election of Trump, but alludes that women who did vote for Trump where “against their own voice”  — subjugated to the will of patriarchy —  unwilling to make up their own minds.

Oh really?  First, I’d like to know who on this green earth felt that she could speak for every American woman of ever race, of every background, and of every colour.   Did she meet every one of us?  Nope?  Did we get birthday cards from her?  Nope.  She might have cared about ‘women’ in general – maybe a personal few that became news worthy, but she didn’t — and doesn’t — care for all of us.  She has no right to speak for all of us.

And —  this is funny —  I’m getting the impression that women’s votes mattered.   Rather we be black, Hispanic, or white, women — one of the most undervalued minorities in the world —  mattered.

Personally, I think that’s kind of empowering.  (Could you imagine if, one day, the women vote being worth more than the men?)  Michelle Obama, as a woman, should celebrate that women matter in what is still a patriarchal society.  Change is coming, and yes it’s slow,  but change happens and maybe it did here and she totally failed to recognize it.

I understand that the vote didn’t go the way she and Hillary wanted it too.  Well, sour grapes to that.   They need to just let it go.   No more books.  No more blame.   Get on with your lives.   Damn.  There’s enough going on now without the “lookie at me, I’m a failure” drama.

Women are (hopefully never ever) are going to vote a woman in office just because she is a woman.  We’re smarter than that.  The woman who becomes president – and there will be one – is going to have to kick global butt Merkel style.  There’s going to be so much pressure and expectation that, should she show any signs of emotional weakness, she will become the entire world’s joke of the century.

Can you imagine the shame?  Other nations have elected female leaders and they have done wonders for the economy and society.  If an American woman fails to be in the same league…  oohhh not good.   I know one thing for sure – Hillary did not fit the bill.  Neither does Mrs. Obama.  For that matter, I didn’t like Sarah Palin either.

And here’s a kicker.  The standards are not set by her education, by her beliefs, or by her intensity.   Instead, it’s gender.

When a woman becomes president, she opens the door for others to follow.  If she fails, the “weaker” sex probably won’t get another chance for decades.  A lackluster presidency would hand the office back to the male species with a bow.

I would love to have a woman president.  I would vote for one, regardless of which party she’s on.   There’s just one condition – she has to be worth it.  She has to be accountable.  She has to be strong – everything that the short-sighted Mrs. Obama and it-shoulda-been-handed-to-me Hillary isn’t.

One day, it’ll happen.  One day.
