Binging: Untold history of America

Binging –  What a funny word for an anorexic to be using.

For the last week, I’ve been binging on the Oliver Stone’s Untold History of America.
I’m definitely — not — a history buff in the least, but I was trying to expand my horizons.

Besides, the current political climate tends are fairly confusing to me.  I think I watch just enough of CNN, NBC, and Fox to draw a huge ‘duh’ concerning world and American affairs.  I try to rely on my own gut and experience to guide me.   It’s not the most stable Jimmy Cricket, but it’s the best I have.

Anyway, I’ve watched the first season and have drawn some conclusions.

*  Every president, outside of maybe Roosevelt, has some special place in Hell.

*  Follow the money.  But, I always knew this.  Life is a disposable commodity.  Political power and wealth is not.  Money and prestige is forever, even if you help get thousands killed.

*  Just about everyone is an asshole.   Again, something I already knew, but the series helps reconfirm it.

* All media lies.

* Gore and Wallace where robbed.  (Wanna bet that history will add Bernie to that list?)
———

I guess that’s not much for watching eleven episodes, most at the gym, but it does have a lot of meaning.

The series has reinforced that America always, always, always needs a foil.    We need an anti-hero to be the hero.   America needs someone and something to make us feel threatened and insecure so we keep the war economy going.

For the longest time, it was the U.S.S.R.  Just based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think they deserved America’s focus.  Promises have been broken multiple times, but they haven’t really retaliated.

Now, the bad guy has expanded.  It’s not contained by one country, but can infiltrate all countries.   No one, not even England, should be fully trusted as terrorists can be of any nationality.

Under Trump, the U.S.S.R has been revitalized.  In my ignorance, I have no idea what they did.   Sure, they used Facebook to potentially influence voters, but isn’t that Facebook’s fault?  Tax payers have surrendered millions of dollars for the Russia Collusion investigation.   Nothing has been found, despite the lawyers, judges, and Harvard graduates who wear tin foil hats.

There’s nothing there.  Let it drop.

So what if America and the U.S.S.R actually have amiable relations? It has nearly happened with Roosevelt.   It nearly happened with Reagan.  JFK wanted to propose a joint space venture with them.   Nearly.  Nearly.  Nearly.    Why not move forward a bit and forget the communist threat?

They’re a threat only if we allow them to be.   Those nations have existed for a really long time and have been fairly prosperous.   If the people are accepting of that form of government, America should not impose Capitalism as a gold standard, especially when Capitalism comes with buckets full of problems.

If there was a joint space venture between America and the USSR, we’d probably have colonized the moon by now.

Reagan took us from being a creditor nation to being in so much debt.   Primarily, I think, because he was driven to weaponized space and develop tech for a threat that didn’t exist.

His debt was hidden and blurred from the public by his economic policies.  Overall, America was weakened and set up spending for the Bush family, Obama, and Clinton.   They each continued to add to the debt and added their own little touches.

I guess I kind of knew about Obama’s drone army on the fringes, but had the luxury of not really paying attention.  Now, I know that he killed close to 4000 people, if not more, by using these little toys.

We all remember Bush’s pursuit of mythical biological weapons and the War on Drugs.
—  hum..

War makes good money.

Fun fact –
Did you know that IBM created the punch card system that helped the Nazis keep track of the Jews the slaughtered?

There’s this theory that America is becoming socialist, primarily through actions of Obama.   Given that Reagan changed America from credit to debt, I can’t help but wonder if he part of this grand conspiracy.

Business runs politics, not people.
We may not have Morgan, Ford, and others working things behind the scenes, but now we have Gates, Bezos, Musk, Buffett, and Zuckerberg.      (Heard of Blue Origin?  Bezos’s money has to go someplace.)

Different setting, same story.  They – have – to be influencing American policies, underhandedly and in the back room.  History will not look kindly on these people, providing we’re around to have a history.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ve made a lot of good intentioned generalizations about what I’ve wrote here.  That series doesn’t cover everything and, I’m sure, is told with some level of bias.

Still, it’s a pretty good watch anyway.
Maybe not so much after episode 10 because there’s a lot of repeat footage, but still it’s pretty good.  It’s something to keep me from watching Charmed and Supernatural reruns.

Yep.  With my bull through a china shop thinking, I’m definitely not cut out to understand the current politics.    That probably would make me the perfect president.
