I’m just going to do some venting.
I fully confess that I don’t know all of the facts and am just jumping to conclusions and connections without much research. But, I think if someone really cares, it’s worth looking into.
A lot of BS has been getting under my nails a little so, in no particular order –
I am most certainly not an expert. Actually, I’d say I’m an expert on not being an expert, but doing extensive business with the nation of Chile seems… silly. I was going to say stupid, but that wouldn’t be right since money is being made, but it’s still silly?
Why?
Chile has privatized water.
There. I said.. um.. typed it.
This means that, in the interest of using water to the best of its ability, the life-giving substance can be bought and sold like a commodity. It’s kind of like buying water from the grocery store and coming home to… nothing. No shower. No water from the tap. Nothing. Zilch.
So, to take that shower or probably a bath at this point, you have to go back to the store and buy more water.
Since everyone needs water, it’s probably not cheap.
Google says:
Nothing too specific. It asks if I’m looking for chilly water. No, I’m not looking for Chile branded water bottles. Google AI at it’s best.
Even if it is cheaper the mass amount of it has to cut into anyone’s budget, especially those who are low income.
Beyond the residential side, I can’t help think of farming. Since I come from a farming state, it’s natural for me to consider those who are out there plowing their life away to make food for others… but are they.
Since water is privatized, I seriously doubt there’s just happy little streams that go through farmer’s fields helping everything grow along. Rather, the water would be damned up and bottled, probably shipped to the largest farms to make that money through exports.
And what does Chile export?
Fruits, vegetables, fish, fruit juice, wood.

All of them take an insane amount of water to grow. Well, it’s insane if you have mothers who can’t bathe their babies because someone in American wants some guacamole and a fruit salad.
But, you may think, that America produces our own fruits and vegetables. It’s important to buy American. Thousands of acres are dedicated to growing food.
True, but America is pretty seasonal. In the winter, we get oranges from Florida. In fall, it’s apples from… practically everywhere. Grapes come from California if the vinery hasn’t become a cinder. But, how much does America actually grow of that stuff? Corn, tobacco, and soybeans are big crops. Grapes, not so much.
It’s well-known that a lot of our food is imported from places where it’s warm all year round like Africa, South America and, you got it, Chile.
These places are supplying apple sauce and guacamole to the entire planet.
Okay then.
But it’s not that bad, right?
So what if the water is controlled by huge shadowy corporation that has a profit first morality. That’s another nation. People can revolt if they want. Blah blah blah.
The Amazon rainforest is over three thousand miles away from me. If you’re on the west coast or farther north, it’s longer for you. The mileage doesn’t stop celebrities from cutting their climate-changing incisors on how the people who own the land choose to use the land they own.
Yes, that sentence is intentionally redundant.
Chile is just a little bit south and to the west from the Amazon. The water is unjustly distributed,
That, apparently, isn’t a big enough blip on their social justice radar to actually tweet about it. As long as there’s someone to peel the grapes, it’s a-okay.
That’s them and this is us. It doesn’t matter unless the media tells us it does. Since everything is going “okay” in Chile, it doesn’t bother us…. right?
What if Chile has a drought?
What if the fires in the Amazon mosey over to Chile?
Then what?
Vent. vent vent vent.
There’s just so much going on to complain about.
It’s just kind of amazing how much is going on and how selective people are about which injustice they support. Well, not support, but… Yeah. Maybe support is the right word.
Whatevs, right?
Don’t buy produce from Chile.
Think of the dirty babies.
