1/30 More political ramblings

I’m being full-on lazy today.

It’s just after 12:30 and I’ve napped most of the morning away… which is very much unlike me but it feels pretty good, actually.  I’ve been aching for the past week or so, weather-related I’m guessing, and I’ve been really bad about taking my meds.

Yeah, I’ll get a move on here when I’m done with this and do some stuff around the house so I don’t feel entirely guilty.  I’ve got a couple of plans.

Anyway…  I’m kind of on a political theme here and wanted to review some of the democratic candidates.

This is without research and my personal opinion.

Crazy sleepy Joe Biden….

Heck no.
I know he’s the Democratic darling, but I can’t phantom how or why.
He says he didn’t do anything and his son didn’t do anything.   He claims his whole family is squeaky clean but there is no possible way that’s true.

He used his status as VP to get his son a job flinging paperclips at the wall for millions of dollars a year at a crooked company called Burisma.  That’s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that something bad went on there.

People make mistakes.   People make mistakes all the time, but not that type of mistake.   I can understand a parent wanting to do right by the children, but Hunter is a grown-ass man who can support himself.  There was no reason for Joe to do what he did outside of pure privilege.

Bernie Sanders…

I feel for Bernie.
He got a raw deal last election with Hilary.
I think he really tried and was gaining momentum.    There were even shirts made for him.. “Feel the Bern… ”

The old guy hopped back on the election train and is apparently doing well.   Perhaps better than last time.

Kudos to him, but that doesn’t get my vote.

Although I’m an adjunct and free college for all would secure my job for the rest of my life, I just don’t see it.

Ever since Obama, the quality of colleges and the education they offer have severely declined just as the prices rise.

I’m sad to say that I’ve had to really reign in my expectations and work quality level from my students.  That downward spiral has just increased and students are graduating without knowing original thought, critical thinking skills, or having a real grasp on what it’s like to do the work they choose to do.

At the same time, colleges are severely propping themselves up to be this haven of enlightenment… that can change a life for the better – easily – when it’s all BS.

Colleges are more concerned with wealth generation than student education.
Plain and simple.  The inadequacy of the education and skills with the increase of wages is just going to make it that much easier for robots to take over.

–  Yeah, I know that sounded like a ‘get off my lawn’ type of thing and it probably is.   I’d just rather not have that happen in my lifetime.

Elizabeth Warren…

I am certainly not against a woman president.
Absolutely not.

Actually, I’m sure things will change and for the better, but I’m not going to vote for a woman just because she shares some of the same body parts as I do.

First, a vote like that would be disrespectful.  I don’t want her president because she’s a girl.   That’s anti-feminist.  I’m sure Elizabeth wouldn’t want that either.

But I have two huge issues with her.

–  Stating that she was Native American on forms for a good chunk of her life.
I understand that she grew up thinking that she was part Native American.   I was told that too, but claiming to be part of a culture is more than just blood.    She didn’t spend her life absorbing their beliefs, art, and values.  When she became older, she didn’t attempt to find out about them other than a courtesy sniff.  Elizabeth didn’t even do a DNA test to see if she was Native American until Trump challenged her too.

So, not.    That’s just dishonest and disrespectful.

The second thing is recent…   That little snip where she tells a dad… a dad who paid for his daughter’s college…. who has worked all his life… who has sacrificed everything to do what he perceived the right thing… to fuck off.    If I remember right, he said his daughter started working when she was 10.

Okay, she didn’t say “fuck off,’ but it was the polite equivalent of it.

With my history, I was really offended by Elizabeth’s reaction.  People who spend their whole life doing the right thing and self-sacrifice deserve more respect than what she said.

And, even though she wants free stuff for all and doesn’t comprehend the working family’s views, some sort of compromise could have been had.  Some sort of massive tax break or other compensation as an olive branch and in recognition of their accomplishments.  Again…. no respect.

People are people, regardless of how old they are or what they have accomplished.    She can’t change things for the better if she ignores the roots of the nation.

Oh… and for all of them….  How are they going to pay for all this free stuff?
I’m not contributing my paycheck and I don’t think anyone else should either.

This has on a lot longer than I thought it would… as usual… and I do wanna straighten up around here a little.

I’ll have to go into Bloomberg and Mayor Pete another time if I think about it.
