I think I lost sleep last night.
Since this whole thing started and we’ve moved into ‘uncertain times,’ I’ve maintained the belief that everything will go back to what it was before.
The loss of money from companies and the habits of Americans would be a significant factor in pushing back for normalcy. We are all stars in our own little soap operas. That’s hard to do from home.
But, I guess I’ve underestimated the resiliency of people. The corona thing isn’t fading. Rather, some states are starting to lock down again. I don’t like that at all. The first time, people got a taste for it. We grumbled sure, but it was enough to kill the economy.
However, people got through it. Government stipends and various organizations saw to that.
Now that we got through once by surrendering part of our freedom in exchange for benefits, who’s to say that a second time wouldn’t bring even more relief?
It doesn’t necessarily need to be cash, although that’s helpful. But a lot of companies have deducted percentages from their bills. I know Geico, Allstate, and even some utilities did.
A couple of lightened payments with the ability of pulling in more via unemployment than actually working.
— It’s coming out wrong.
People who have been traumatized in a certain way and survived it know that they can survive it.
The second time around isn’t so bad because they lived through it the first time.
We went through a lockdown once. We can do it again because we know we can.
If anything, it’ll be easier for everyone to adapt because we already know the drill.
Another thing has been praying on my mind — BLM.
Again, as previous types of movements, they settled down. Okay, well not completely settled down — which they shouldn’t — but acted more civilly. Absolutely speak out for justice, but not incur violence that they claim to be against. That’s difficult to do, but it’s avoiding becoming the monster that they think they are battling.
That’s what is happening.
Even people who aren’t in BLM and support it are creating destruction and the official BLM group isn’t derailing these actions.
“We appreciate what you’re doing, but busting the windows at Macy’s is a bit too much.”
Nothing like that.
Their silence is encouraging.
Maybe everyone who takes some sort of action immediately becomes engulfed in the organization. No hazing required unless the hazing comes later.
History is full of life-changing incidents.
The Civil War. Revolutionary War. Overthrow of the Russian monarchy. The Nazis.
These had sweeping economic and civil changes.
They were first led by a dedicated and almost fanatic group of people. In some cases, very fanatic people. The message was truthful, only under a certain lens, and was very alluring.
These small groups produced great changes. Replaced the government. Became the government. Asserted a new normal quickly.
There’s been other movements which didn’t change a whole lot – I’m thinking of the flower children from the Vietnam War. They did well for what they did, but the war didn’t stop because of them. They asserted their thoughts without riots. But, that movement wasn’t given a governmental pass or helping hand as this movement has.
Tearing down statues may be a healthy form of relieving anger, but so is murder. Maybe not the first murder. There’s some shock and traumatization to it, but the second time… not so much. The trauma was survived and can be done so again.
The government doesn’t support murder, so why does it support the raping of hundred plus-year-old statues?
In Seattle, entire city blocks where (are?) held hostage under CHAZ or whatever it’s called. The lives and safety of those people don’t matter, I suppose, but it’s a healthy form of rebelliousness for the occupiers?
I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t one of the flashpoints in history. A total reconstruction of economic and societal norms. But, with government support… why? Because they’re so afraid of losing power? Do the officials in Washington feel the need to cater to what is essentially terrorism? In Michigan, did the Democratic governor feel so personally threatened that she wouldn’t allow people to go outside?
What are they after? Votes? They got something to prove or not prove?
Anyway… everything just seems to be connecting and it’s hung around far too long. Maybe this ‘is’ the new norm?
