This article is kind of funny.
From what I can make out from it — as writers like to use a lot of big words, especially when they’re together, these people are feeling that the liberal arts are being threatened.
This would include writers, journalists, and artists of all sorts.
………. What is wrong with these people?
There’s a lot of historians who signed this and history shows that a suppressive culture doesn’t dampen the soft arts. Rather, it makes them just that more impressive because they’re going against the culture.
Seriously, what scholar, writer, or artist, hasn’t gained recognition for going with the flow? Um… nobody, that’s who.
Literary pursuits thrive off social and cultural conflict.
It may not always be apparent what that conflict is, but it’s there coded in psychoanalytical paint and anthropical sprinkles. A person just needs to have an open mind and pay attention to interpret it.
And journalists… the definition for that word isn’t to be found.
A journalist who dedicates her or himself to strict unbiased reporting is a journalist.
Unfortunately, those people are in short supply now-a-day.
Those who pose as journalists are really sheep in wolf’s clothing. Well, that would be an insult to those animals. Actually, maybe they’re a type of monster who sold their integrity for a chance at fame and fortune.
Although I admire Rowling and Chomsky for what they are, they’re full of crap-ola here.
Did they even read it before lending their names to it? How do we know if they agreed to sign this to start with? Maybe someone forged them.
Who, exactly, wrote this letter?
Who is that person to presume that they have a full understanding of history and culture?
Without anything substantial to back this up, the famous names on the list come off as a bunch of crying whining babies.
