Don't live the American dream. Live your dream.

A tisket, a tasket, what’s in the basket?

Every once in a while.. well, more frequently since I’ve had more time… I check on this discussion board.   It’s one of those boards that a lot (supposedly) intelligent people post on.  Primarily a gaming cite, it covers… everything and of often with excruciating detail about nearly every game imaginable.

I mean, this is where reviewers go to get insights.  Let’s face it, most people who write reviews don’t really have time to reflect on the quality or time to enjoy the product.   Their mind is already writing the review in a way that’ll attract the most attention… unless their paid off or the publication has a certain biased stance.

I digress, again.
Sorry.

Anyways,
– In addition to the cheery game side, this board harbors a deep dark off-topic forum.  This is what I like the most, of course.  Normally, just as the gaming side, lots are posted on the off-topic that tend to slip by me, media doesn’t draw attention to, or are from other countries.  I find it very informing.

The off-topic forum also allows post such as “My GF wants a three way,” and “I ordered a happy meal!”  Some of this could be bragging.  Some could be made up.   The poster could be board.   Whatever.  But, every once in a while, topic is posted in earnest.

In this post, Tuffydude (this made-up name is made-up) was disturbed by the flack from the Not the White House Correspondents Dinner (NWHCD):

But even though I didn’t vote for Trump, I do know people who did, many of them
being my close friends and family. Last time I checked, none of them were closet
Nazis. My grandmother is in her mid 80’s, and has been every bit the model kind-
hearted granny you tend to see in storybooks and movies.

But if social media was to be believed, I should be posting a video where I
denounce her as a piece of shit Nazi who should burn in hell like the scum she was.
I’m seeing a constant generalization of Trump voters and supporters that pit them as
pure evil and beyond redemption.

To me, it seems that the poster was being reasonable.  He or she was simply seeking reassurance from his or her anonymous peers.  The writer probably sees lots of negative things happening in the U.S government right now and simply doesn’t want to damn his grandmother and loved ones by association.

Simple, right?  Although a person is not gay, doesn’t mean the person condemns gay friends or the lifestyle.   If someone is Hispanic, that doesn’t mean that everyone assumes the person doesn’t understand English, right?  Such assumptions are harmful and often lead to negative stereotypes.   It’s the ‘us vs them’ thing.  No matter the outer packaging, we all have squishy pink and red bits inside.  That what keeps humanity together – on the battlefield and off it.

—  I simply — cringed — at some of the replies from the anonymous peers.
I kid you not:

From Hampstung:

Also, it’ s not like all Nazi party members in Germany were running the
concentration camps. Most were simply content to stand back and watch
things unfold. Your Trump voting relatives might not be “actively” racist and that
might be enough to bring personal relief, but it’s also unlikely they’d do the ethical
thing if it ever came time to do so.

Nonnoble:

I got family who voted trump. While I don’t call them Nazi scum I will
call them ignorant trash at best. I’ll say the same for about any trump supporter.

Sh!t4brns:

They aren’t Nazi scum they are just racist pieces of shit who either only care about
themselves and/or want to see people they don’t like get actively hurt. I am sure if you
really talked to your sweet old grandmommy she would have some pretty heinous
     racist shit to say.

Fortunately the growing socialist movement doesn’t need Trump voters.

… and it gets worse from there.  The few people… maybe two… that attempted to bring peace to the thread by trying to blame a two-party system and claiming Trump was the lesser of two evils was promptly flame-boiled on an open pit with suspiciously red BBQ sauce.

Okay, so what’s the deal here?
Do you think that the original poster knew what he or she was getting into and intentionally causing a flaming debate?   Yes, I watched this board fairly closely during election time and, yeah sure, it was anti-Trump, but not anti-people.  It wasn’t anti-family.  Actually, it was pretty supportive of everyone, the fat, the thin, the gay, the straight.

Like I said.  We are all the same on the inside.  Squishy red bits don’t lie.

But now, it seems like the whole “let’s get together yeah, yeah, yeah is just “dust in the wind.”  They are more than happy to drag their Trump voting friends and family through the muck and mire…  even if the person isn’t a Trump supporter now.  The board values the blame game more than real games.  Those who have Brain One are more than happy to quote 1984, dig up Nazi incidents, and apply psychology.   If don’t look behind the curtain logical fallacies, their arguments could be considered reasonable, if not passionate.

But yet, it’s okay to have that reason and passion be used flambé a grandmother of someone who was probably just looking for a little support… a small amount of encouragement… against the vibes of a stifling media event that was taken just a little too personal or reflects that possibly we’re not all squishy bits inside.

I find that this is a tisket, a tasket, a basket of true deplorables.
