Got the first quote for a new roof.
I think it sounds great.
They’re going to add ventilation to the roof so the heater (northern term) or air handler) to you southerners) will get some air so it won’t sweat so much.
In this house, sweaty air handler = air conditioner doesn’t work.
That could solve a lot of problems.
The guy stated that they’d replace rotten or compromised wood. The roof would be ‘architectural’ which is the highest tier of the three common roof tiers three-tab, diagonal being the other two. There’s a 50-year warranty on the materials. 20 years on labor. I’ve got lots of options for colors at no additional charge.
They’ll replace all of the things that stick out of the roof. I don’t know what they’re for. Something to do with plumbing or heating maybe? But those would be replaced.
It would be able to handle 130-mile winds compared to the roof that we have now that can barely stand 60. There’s a good chance that the electric bill would go down a bit and, plus, the house insurance could drop. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, blah blah blah, but it sounds great that there could be a possibility.
The guy was really organized. It’s a local company and the guy even gave customer contacts for personal testimonials. The only thing that really bugged me was that he said a couple of times that my favorite part will be deciding on the roof color.
Which is a hard no. I’m more concerned with quality over color. I don’t think he figured that out.
It’s like everything I want for the house that I didn’t know I wanted, but it’s also nearly $7000.
I think I can manage about half of it since I’ve got car insurance coming up, but I’ll be broke. Like broke broke broke. It’ll be the most amount I’ve invested in this house at one go.
But it’s so so so important.
There are some things that I’ll pay above and beyond for certain things. Like car tires. I’m going to put the best I can on the car, no matter what type or how old it is. I’m not going to sleep on a bottom line mattress. Sleep is too important. A car battery – I’ll spend a lot on that.
To me, these are essential items. I guess it’s kind of like ‘quality of life’ for me. The car may be rusted solid, but the tires will be able to handle all weather and all-terrain. When I go out in the snow or during a hurricane, I know the chances of me skidding out of control are low.
I have that same feeling for certain things concerning houses. Right now, it’s been really limited to the air conditioner. A certain someone becomes ill when it gets to be too hot and I’m kind of getting to where the heat gets to me too. So, the air conditioner has to be the best that I can possibly afford or not afford.
I’ve got a couple of other companies to provide quotes. I’m silly, not stupid. This is a big thing.
And you know, I don’t mind spending the money or even going into debt over this. It’s needed.
It’s just a personal let down to have to use so much – all of it. I’m a bit of a money horder. I’d rather have the money on hand in case the crap hits the fan. I just seem to have a difficult time to determine when that time is.
One way or the other, I’m going to take care of things.
I’m just causing a bunch of stress for myself.
Trying to think about the farce impeachment thing that’s going on too.
It’s just a f*cking circus. It’s depressing.
I don’t knows.
