I’ve been sticking my head in the sand for the past week.
I’ve been going ot the gym and working myself to the point of near exaustion… which I konw isn’t the best, but it sure does feel good. Well, at least to me a tired body feels good. I link it to actually doing something during the day.
I’ve seriously been binging on Crypt TV, Alter, and other short story horror movies on Youtube.
It’s like I’m doing research.
Most of what I watch, I don’t feel is particularly good. There’s just too many holes.
For example, in the short movie entitled “Wood,” the main character’s car is set on fire.
Okay, fine. But, he doesn’t try to put out the flames. He doesn’t call 911. He wasn’t afraid of the gas tank blowing up his house. Nothing.
Justifiably, he was screaming at a couple of shadows.
Still, there was a more immediate threat of his house catching on fire and his car blowing up than screaming at something that may be human or may have just been an animal.
At the end of the movie, the local townsies admit that they where just joking… after breaking and entering and pretending to kill his dog. The main character supposedly killed… I don’t know if an axe to the stomach would be enough to kill someone immediately… one of the invaders.
“It was just a joke… ” was enough to apparently resolve the lawbreakers of any crimes and land the main character in a lunatic asylumn. The main guy had a couple of things going on that would probably be sorted out with a good psychologist. It’s not enough to condemn someone to a high security mental institution.
I know these movies are made on a budget and don’t have the resources for special effects.
I respect that. I think the lack of resources can inspire creativity. i.e. Army of Darkness.
Still, it’s just sloppy writing with little character development.
Disappointing, really.
Is this what short story horror has become?
