Don't live the American dream. Live your dream.

4/23

I guess I’ve been kind of busy over the past couple of days.

The ENGL202 term is ending – thank goodness.
This class hates me.

While they’re not as stupid as some of those from the last term, they are highly incompetent.

Okay.
Like, for example, last term there was a student who swore that an article from cafemom.com was 100% legitimate. It was something that she could write into her personal Bible because it was the Truth. In reality world, the article was just a summary of a closed Reddit thread from a couple of years ago. Stupid, yes, but they pulled through and didn’t make such an obvious mistake again.

Rather, the class was active and engaging in discussion. They chose some challenging topics like arguing that Andriod phones are more secure than iPhones. They were interactive and most of them actually passed.

So, a bit stupid but their minds and hearts were generally in the right place.

This class hasn’t made such obvious mistakes. But, they’re lazy as many turn in the weekly assignments late. They are not responsive to discussion and my emails are often ignored. Announcements are left unread which causes some confusion as they really have no idea what to do. That willful ignorance affects their assignments and many are failing. Or, rather, passing by the grace of my generous grading. I’m well aware that some have to pass to meet the ‘standards.’

Although the college I work for doesn’t directly state that students are customers, students * are * customers to a degree. If students fail, they don’t make money and cash is king. Aduncts are kind of like the salesperson. If we don’t make quotas, we’re cut and most of the college professors are adjuncts. It’s a nasty cycle.

Multiple students are suddenly waking up. They’re panicking and assignments that are over a month late are rolling in. That is where my evening hours have been spent instead of writing.

But… it’ll be over on Monday.
There’s no way in hockey that I’m going to take late assignments past the last day of the class. I’ve bent the rules before, but not this time. I’m over it.

I am just forever grateful that I have slim to no chance of ever interacting with these people once they graduate – and they will graduate. Quotas. They’re mostly from the New England area. I take comfort that they will never do my medical billing, teach a child I know, or I would have to use their services as a paralegal.

I would have zero faith in their abilities and, actually, most students’ abilities given the college inadequacies and current student attitudes brought about by media and being ‘woke.’

Maybe that’s it.
They’re so woke they’re lethargic.

In the background of all that, I’m aware of Article 42, Depp/Heard, the Ukraine, illegal immigration, and inflation. The supply chain is still broken and President Brandon continues to be a disappointment. No. Beyond that. He’s a sincere disappointment as is his entire administration.

I’m also going to physical therapy twice a week for my arthritic and inflamed hip. I’ve been trying to rebuild my strength and feel like some of the wobbly bits are finally starting to tighten. Just a smidge.

This weekend has been the warmest it’s been all year. – At the end of friggen April — and I went biking at a local park for most of the morning. I think I may actually have a little bit of a sunburn. Biking is good for arthritic hips. It’s an exercise that doesn’t tend to put weight on the joint.

I hope to be able to do more of that coming up although I may have to actually get a tune-up on the bike. I don’t know what happens in mom’s garage but it’s never treated bikes kindly although all they do is just sit there.

So… um… yeah.

That’s why I haven’t posted in a couple of days.
I have to be a glorified babysitter. Not every class is incompetent. Like I said – last term was okay. This term sucks. But, I remained hopeful that the next term won’t be so bad. Over the past couple of months, I’ve developed a short fuse for incompetence.
