Back when I was a wee lass in the 1980s, I remember someone telling me that I should be grateful for my bread and food.
People all over the world would be grateful for what I left on my plate and people in USSR would stand in line for ten hours or more just for a loaf of plain white bread.
To my young mind, I thought that the people of the USSR didn’t have to work since they could stand in line all day. I also thought that the bread must have been awesome since so many people were willing to wait so long for it. It must have been true wonder bread. It was a bread that could imbue superpowers and make heroes.
I was half right.
It could make the people of the USSR superheroes.
Providing for a family can make anyone a hero, doubly so if an entire day was spent waiting in a line for something that, hopefully, was fresh and could make toast.
USSR had a command economy at that time.
What this means is that the government decided how much of something would be made. The government controlled the production, quantity, quality, and distribution… of everything.
It wasn’t that Russia didn’t have the means to feed its people. It just placed importance on military and spending over the basic needs of its citizens.
That control and lack of a free market tanked Russia’s economy and lead to the breakup of the USSR. Bits of it, like Ukraine, Latvia, and Armenia, separated. Russia was reborn and as it is today – struggling to regain the territory lost as evident by the Ukraine incursion.
America never had that problem. Allowing businesses to pursue money by controlling production, advertising, quantity, and quality meant that there was always competition. That means more products for Americans to choose from. This means that we never had to stand in line for eight hours for bread.
BUT —
* conspiracy theory alert *
America is moving towards a command economy and the Brandon Administration could potentially be in charge of the bread.
— Supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine are causing a shortage of fertilizer, fuel, and other base components that are needed for production. While this will have a wide impact, the lack of wheat, soybeans, corn, and other base materials will cause shortages.
— Bird flu is making some meats unsafe for consumption.
— Mysteriously, some production plants have been destroyed. For example, a General Mills plant in Georgia was destroyed by fire. Over a dozen food processing plants in America have been devastated within the past two years.
— Inflation.
— Some farmers are allowing their lands to become solar farms. This could potentially further cut down on the amount of food produced, doubly so since fertilizer is becoming scarce.
— Climate change activists and increasing government restrictions are clamping down on farmer production.
— Small companies will have to restrict or simply cease to exist. Large companies, knowing that their competitors are lessened, can increase their prices.

To use the limited resources “” wisely, “” I could see the Brandon administration backroom conspiring with companies like General Mills, Tyson, and Nestle, to further restrict production and set prices. The food companies would receive unknown generous governmental substances. Or, maybe, be threatened. If the companies didn’t comply, an ‘accident’ may occur to their food production plants.
The production of food stuffs will be restricted. It won’t be enough, of course. And, when the American population questions it, President Brandon will just repeat his current talking points and shift blame. It’s all Putin’s fault!
But, moreover, legacy media will launch a complimentary campaign. The lack of food production will be promoted as helpful and life-saving. Since Americans are eating less, obesity and related co-morbidities will reduce. It’s also saving the planet because farming and ranching have been reduced.
Essentially, ‘it’s for the children.’
They will ignore that those children will be undernourished, have stunted growth, and possibly a compromised immune system from the Covid vaccination.
That generation would be wholly reliant on big business overlords and the government. Illness and the lack of basic security will make them compliment, scared, and intellectually neutered.
Anyone from Gen X back would probably call BS to this. But, it’s not about Gen X and the aging generations. It’s about the ‘woke’ generation and the one after it. The only variety that they are slated to know is what gender they are, not the difference between white and wheat bread. They are thoroughly distracted and trained to chance clouds.
That would be how America would become a command economy.
