Always choose need over want.
Ex:
A person needs substance.
An apple is not processed; it’s simple and has health benefits.
— This is a need.
A chocolate bar is processed, artificial, created to be addictive, and lacks nutritional value.
— This is a want.
A person needs to be financially responsible.
The need to set a budget and live in it helps build credit scores, reduces stress, and provides a cushion for emergency situations.
The want for a Disney vacation, overpriced car, and expensive clothes for bragging rights or to keep up with the crowd is a want. Not a need. The want to go into debt for bragging rights and a couple of social media pictures is not worth the debt and stress.
A person needs self-discovery.
Knowing who you are and your boundaries defines, limits, and encourages.
Wanting to fit in and relying on groupthink, strangers, or vindictive friends destroys the sense of self.
