Will America fall?
I think that this is two questions, honestly.
It’s too ambiguous.
(Version One)
Will America fall?
— Will it disappear? Become akin to Rome and just disappear? Is Trump Ozymandias, and will one of his statues be found in the middle of a desert a hundred years in the ruins of what was D.C?
(Version Two)
Will America fall?
— Will the culture, society, and economy disappear under the weight of immigrants and the lacerations of internal faction wars? Will we just limp along like Greece or Venezuela? Will we mirror Somalia and just be continually in stages of recovery and ruin?
— These are totally separate.
For Version One —
I’m going to say no.
I’m calling the 250-year thing bull shit. It’s fairly convenient that people forget that Europe has been around a lot longer than America.
While they have their problems, England is still there. Lots of wars, lots of vests, but King Henry the 8th is in the history books. There was the Elizabethan era, and Queen Victoria made white lace popular.
So… yeah, the 250 is absolutely bull.
Americans also seem to forget that we’ve split ourselves in two during the Civil War. Stitched and bloody, we came back together.
We’re a warrior nation, sure, but we bought Alaska from Russia. France was paid pennies for the Louisiana Purchase. When we can, we do purchase instead of fight to go from sea to sea.
Two world wars, multiple economic tragedies, plagues, and cowardly stealth attacks have been survived.
In the 250 years, only once did an invading force land on our shores and attack — and that was when England had the audacity to burn D.C. – and that was 1814.
So… yeah… no one knows history. It’s disappeared from education. Generations have been taught to be ashamed.
But, in an odd hopeful vein, it’s still there. The truth that is being taught isn’t the truth. History, while it may not repeat, does rhyme.
Version Two —
I’m going to say — maybe — although I’m leaning towards ‘yes.’
Something is going to have to change – and quick.
At least we forget, America has survived the Great Depression, the 2008 housing crisis, and COVID – when everything was shut down. In the 90s, America actually had a balanced budget. It didn’t last long, but it happened.
Just this time – I see two major challenges.
* The Ponzi scheme that is the central bank. The sale of bonds gives the world leverage they can call in at any time.
* Social Security cliff.
I think that Social Security is supposed to run out around 2030. That’s really not that far. While I doubt benefits will disappear, they’ll be reduced. Taxes will have to go up. Services will have to be reduced.
Or the money printer goes burrrr…..
To navigate through these, America needs a hero. It needs someone who will do the hard things. Who will raise taxes now or reduce services NOW. But ‘now’ doesn’t win elections.
It’s all about the elections.
Don’t look down.
So?
America may not be the center of global attention. It may not be first. But England was once first, and now it isn’t. It might be time for America to stop sniffing its own farts and pull its head out of its ass.
But – we need someone to be the adult in the room. And no one, so far, is willing to stand up.
Living through the 80s and 90s, I’ve been told for over twenty years that global warming – and now climate change – was going to kill us all. Florida would be underwater. Cats and dogs mutating. Bees dying.
Yeah, the climate changed. But that’s called “seasons.” Truthfully, America produces less carbon dioxide now than we did in the 60s. More filters, more efficient cars…. ect.
That’s B.S.
The death of America is like the climate change end-of-the-world B.S. But, this time, there’s social media.
Drama.
Drama.
Drama.
Whatever.
